March Madness offered you 30 seconds of each couple, but you haven’t seen the best of their dancing.
Meet the last four couples who will surprise you with their signature moves.
Saskia van Walsum is here from Quebec for her senior year. While she took ballet and tap lessons as a child, Saskia had stopped dancing, until she performed as the Moorish dancer in the school musical. She is looking forward to a change of pace as a participant in Dancing Like the Stars.
Conall Molloy is a senior at Orono High School. He’s been involved with every school theater production since his freshman year including his recent portrayal of Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha. Conall is currently a captain of the Orono Nordic Ski Team. During the fall he ran as a co-captain on the cross country team. When not in school, Conall enjoys reading European history, listening to Howard Hanson, and staring into the abyss of a J. M. W. Turner painting.
Click to view slideshow.Emma Sarrantonio is the captain of the speech and debate team and qualified for two national tournaments in speech and debate. She has won many awards in speech and debate as well as the FLAME video award her sophomore year. Emma is discovering a new appreciation for the art of dance and realizes it’s much more complicated than it appears.
Zachary Hamilton is the senior class treasurer at OHS. He was a captain of the Red Riots football team this past season, as well as coach of the chess team and co-captain of the math team with Brandon Crocker. He is also a member of the varsity tennis team and volunteers during the winter at the Glenburn Rec Department. Zach plans to major in sports management with additional degrees in economics and math.
Click to view slideshow.Eleanore (Elea) Kass is the Senior Class President and a three-sport varsity athlete who helped captain her soccer and basketball teams this year. She is also a member of the two-time Maine-State-Championship-winning girls outdoor track team. She will be attending college in the fall either in New England or in her place of birth, Ontario, Canada. Elea’s only formal dance experience consists of a few years of ballet when she was little so this performance should be a real treat.
When Calum Hamilton is not wrestling a crocodile with one arm, or climbing Mount Everest, he can be found tearing up the dance floor with his trusty partner, Elea Kass. He is planning on doing some “super awesome stuff” with his gap year next year, and then studying something somewhere the year after. While Cal has done various musical performances over the years, he has never participated in a dancing competition. He also enjoys long walks on the beach.
Click to view slideshow.Vicky Shuang Xie is an exchange student from Zhuhou, China (Hunan Province) this year. She did cheering in the fall and will play tennis this spring. She plans to attend the University of Maine this fall and hopes to study public relations or communications. She enjoys meeting new people, Korean dramas, and spicy food. This is the first time she has tried to dance and she really enjoys it.
Chad Orn is the starting quarterback for the high school football team. Chad can most often be found spending time with his girlfriend, Kaitlyn. After graduation he plans to enlist in the army for active duty. Chad, who once cheered for OHS, has no dance experience but loves busting a move. He has enjoyed dancing with Vicky and the DSL experience.
