Our nominations this week come from the track and the pool, with three outstanding student athletes earning nods for McDonald’s High School Athlete of the Week.
Leila Johnston of MDI High School The senior helped the Trojans win the PVC Championship by finishing first in three events. Johnston was part of the 200 meter winning relay team and won the 100 meter butterfly (57.06) and the 100 meter backstroke in 59.54.
Lauren Stoops of Orono High School Stoops. a junior, won three events in the PVC Indoor Track Championships taking the title in the 55 meter hurdles (8.77), 55 meter dash (7.47) and the 200 meter dash (27.02)
Tia Tardy of Mattanawcook Academy The sophomore had a strong performance in the PVC Indoor Track Championships winning all three of her events including the 1 mile (5:23.00), 800 meter run (2:23.48) and the 2 mile in 11:57.02
