NORTHFIELD, Minn. — With a flair for the dramatic, the first goal in the collegiate career of first-year Diana Tyutyunnyk (Orono, Maine/Orono) was the overtime game winner as the Carleton College women’s soccer team topped Grinnell College, 1-0, in the Knights’ home opener.
Tyutyunyk ran onto a pass from Ava Lewis (Jr./Seattle, Wash./Garfield) that split the Pioneer backline, and the Carleton rookie fired a shot to the lower left corner, beating Grinnell’s All-Region goalkeeper Katy Oldach.
The Knights (2-2) out-shot the visitors 16-7 but needed some solid work from their own goalkeeper, Mikayla Coulombe (Sr./Crystal, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret’s), in order to register the clean sheet. Coulombe registered five saves, none more important than her stop of a shot by Jordan Maddaus on a near breakaway in the 84th minute.
