“Eliot is my younger brother. He passed away two days before Christmas this past year.”22 year old Eliot Lamb was a whitewater raft guide, and paddled in the canoe race every year.
“He was an amazing soul.”
“He was a loved man.”
A Bangor family’s tragedy has now turned into a beautiful tribute, all thanks to the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race.
“So much of what Eliot did was influence the lives of others with his own. If we can get out there and show people how much fun this is and how you can live a heathy lifestyle and enjoy Maine, we’ve done everything that he would want to do if he were here.”
This is the first time his sister Madilyn is participating.
“I’ve always wanted to do it and I thought that I would do it alongside my brother. We don’t get that chance, so I wanted to make sure that we do it in his honor.”
Madilyn is teaming up with her father and more than 20 other friends and family members Saturday.
They’re doing what Eliot loved best, picking up the paddles in his honor.
“It’s definitely emotional for us for sure, but it’s really nice that we get to do it together.”
Eliot’s family says he touched the lives of many, including Madilyn’s children.
“My kids were incredibly important to Eliot. He was a fantastic uncle.”
“Making sure that they learn the same things he would’ve taught them if he were here.”
